Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Printing emails based on Message Filters, does not seem possible
All of my office devices are connected to Sonoff S31 smart plugs, flashed with Tasmota on their own locked-down VLAN, and can be controlled via voice, Alexa, Tasker automation on my Android, NFC tags at my office door and various scripts triggered via my StreamDeck (on Linux). This all works fantastic, and I can turn on or off my devices, including my printer, when I start or end my day at work.

Ask HN: I’m an FCC Commissioner proposing regulation of IoT security updates
The best alternative firmware example for true IOT devices is Tasmota [1]. Erase manufacturer firmware for every ESP devices the day after purchase to avoid those careless manufacturer firmwares.

Sonoff smart plugs
The ESP8266 based Sonoff S31 and ESP32 based Switchbot plugs, both flashed with either Tasmota or ESPHome, are my go-to options for US WiFi smart plugs with power monitoring.

Add $4 WiFi Logging to IKEA’s $12 Air Quality Sensor (Wemos and Vindriktning)
And if you want to turn your ESP8266 into a standalone appliance, with a web interface and directly editable config that doesn't need a build step, Tasmota is another great option.

OpenMQTTGateway v1.6.0 released
Go to your gateway IP and type admin/OTAPASSWORD . The password can be changed from the Wifi Manager portal. Thanks, @NorthernMan54, for this add and to Tasmota as they inspired this feature and the code. Note that the WebUI is unavailable with the Theengs plug in this version.

Custom on off times/Api
Setting two on/off cycles with 50 discrete schedules seems like a very inefficient way of doing this when the same thing could be accomplished with two rules. Any compatible device flashed with Tasmota or similar FOSS firmware would make this possible.
-
Using a temp probe to change strip colour
This could absolutely be achieved using an ESP8266, but something like Tasmota or ESPHome might be a better platform to start with.

[Newb] Need help with wind speed\direction sension
You could strap a magnetometer to a "dumb" weather vane, but I don't think Tasmota supports any magnetometers unless you want to do a PR. I know there have been a few attempts to add the HMC/QMC5883 sensors in the past, like this.

What Automation are you most Proud of ?
Then, I make a HomeKit automation that automatically (without any silly confirmation on my iPhone) switches my Home alert system status to Away when I am not at home (based on geofencing) and conversely, switched it to Disarmed when I come home. You would say: this is not possible, dumb Apple does not allow this with security devices. And you're right. That's why I circumvent this moron attitude by using a dummy switch in the middle. The geofencing Home automation controls the Switch On/Off status, and that virtual switch has its own automation that control the security system status. That way, it works! The HomeKit switch is in fact a cheap ESP8266 DIY board flashed with Home Accessory Architect (HAA) open-source firmware (esp-homekit-devices repo on GitHub). But such virtual switch can also be created with homebridge. Or you can use a true Homekit physical socket for example.

Any possibility to update this smart switch
But for homekit there seems to be this firmware: https://github.com/RavenSystem/esp-homekit-devices
-
Any HomeKit accessories for this?
I replaced 2 of those with Sonoff switches that where flashed with raven to make them HomeKit compatible. https://github.com/RavenSystem/esp-homekit-devices

I built a HomeKit Temperature and Humidity sensor using ESP8266-01S and DHT20
I think you could achieve the same functionality with it without homebridge as a gateway: https://github.com/RavenSystem/esp-homekit-devices

Why Apple, Amazon and Google Are Uniting on Smart-Home Tech: Matter Explained
Personally I use Home Accessory Architect which also integrates directly with HomeKit without any other server or whatever inbetween https://github.com/RavenSystem/esp-homekit-devices/wiki
-
How do i reproduce this with HomeKit copatable bulbs/lights?
You use the same things they’re using. You flash the sonoff they used with https://github.com/RavenSystem/esp-homekit-devices firmware. Then you add the sonoff to apple’s home app.
