SingleFileZ VS ArchiveBox

You can do the same thing with SingleFileZ [1] which can protect saved pages with a password. It relies on the zip specification to store encrypted resources.

I agree that browsers should offer an API in order to get all the resources easily. It would make things much easier. However, for security reasons, this API would be restricted to environments like Web Extensions. FYI, I also took another approach that might interest you, see https://github.com/gildas-lormeau/SingleFileZ. The main drawback is that the HTML produced by SingleFileZ is not valid.

If you do have files whose names begin with an ISO 8601 compliant date- or timestamp, the filenametimestamps module with do the trick. This way, I index all photographs, all web downloads, emails, usenet postings, ... just by choosing a specific file name prefix format. Same holds true for web pages which are automatically saved using SingleFileZ to files matching that filename prefix format. There you go, this is how I solve your original question.

Images are stored as data URIs [1]. Note that they could also be stored as entries in a zip file too! [2].

I'm using SingleFileZ which stores my whole web traffic into single-HTML files (one per page including images and such). They are stored in files like 2021-12-14T14.20.34 hostname - karl-voit.at - What App am I Using for What and How.html which I can link to my Org-mode via my-webarchive-tsfile () from my configuration.

I'd personally use SingleFileZ, as it seems to be the most complete "archive".

I have an event-sourcing refactor in progress now to allow us to pluginize functionality like the API (similar to Home Assistant with a plugin app sotre), it will take a month or two. Next up is the REST API using the new plugin system.

The ArchiveBox project (which gets reposted on the regular: e.g. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=38954189 ) also saves in WARC https://github.com/ArchiveBox/ArchiveBox#output-formats although I've personally not used it to comment further

note you no longer need to create a user manually though, so this shouldn't be an issue anymore. just set ADMIN_USERNAME and ADMIN_PASSWORD env vars and it'll autocreate the user and collection on first run.
