Sandboxie VS Files

Use Sandboxie on Windows. It's open source these days, and isolates processes from making changes on your system. It's perfect to install and run potentially unsafe programs. Sandboxie exists since 2003, and yet we still have people in business worlds running viruses from mail attachments.

Sandboxie

I use Sandboxie Plus to isolate software and games in Windows, including Stable Diffusion, local LLMs, and other Python projects. You can restrict internet and folder access. It's as easy as right-clicking and selecting "Run isolated in a sandbox," and all the files will install inside the Sandboxie folder. Everything that you open inside those sandbox folders will run through Sandboxie. You can run a command prompt inside the sandbox too. Full GPU support.

You can allow applications inside a Sandboxie to communicate with each other through sockets even when network access by Sandboxie is blocked1. You can enable Sandboxie network access and use Windows firewall outside Sandboxie to block all applications inside the Sandboxie from accessing the network1. It is also possible to specify ports that cannot be accessed by boxed applications2. However, it is not possible to specify IP’s or IP ranges that cannot be accessed by boxed applications2.

In addition to just taking all privileges way from the process, like Chrome does, there's also Sandboxie [1] and the official Windows Sandbox [2]

Could you pls. test if the vulnerability can be mitigated by using Sandboxie-Classic (that is the free version)?

HardeningKitty is a good start but truly securing Windows is actually super complicated.

If you want a extra layer of protection, you can also learn how to use virtual machines like VMware Workstation and sandbox environments like Sandboxie to protect the integrity of your system and personal data, if you are running non trusted software or using not safe sites, the protection they can provide is eons ahead of what an antivirus can provide you.

I have the https://files.community/ app installed because I like the modern UI, but it's just too darn slow.

I use Files instead of Explorer because of crap like this.

Files is an aesthetically pleasing file explorer alternative you could take a look into.
