SKR-2 VS BIGTREETECH-TMC2209-V1.2

Compare SKR-2 vs BIGTREETECH-TMC2209-V1.2 and see what are their differences.

BIGTREETECH-TMC2209-V1.2

TMC2209 is an ultra-silent motor driver IC for two-phase stepper motors. Its continuous drive current is 2A and peak current is 2.8A. Compared with TMC2208, the driving current of this IC is not only improved by 0.6a-0.8a, but also this IC increases the function of locked-motor test. (by bigtreetech)

  • TMC2209 Stepper Motor Driver Wiring Help
    1 project | /r/ElectricalEngineering | 16 Sep 2022
I had my electronics project prototyped on a breadboard with everything working initially and then I decided to start wiring things up in my electronics box and now I can't for the life of me get the stepper working how I had before. I can still get a little bit of movement out of it after changing the pin configurations for the MS (microstepping) pins. If I change the RPM in software, the existing low-speed movement I can get out of it will become louder, stop or slow the motor completely. I believe that there is a phase issue on the physical wiring of the stepper, otherwise cycling through every microstepping pin configuration should eventually have aligned with what was specified in software and got it rotating as per normal. I am using a BigTreeTech v1.2 TMC2209 stepper driver whos datasheet can be found here. I considered I might have blew one of the FETS on the stepper driver when trying to diagnose the problem and different phase combinations, so I pulled a spare driver off my 3D printer and wired that up and can confirm it is acting the same way; which rules out a bad IC.

Stepper motor drivers in modules follows the standard created by Pololu some years ago, and are widely used on DIY 3d printers. Couldn't find much info about the TwoTrees module, but the BTT one have good documentation on the company's Github: https://github.com/bigtreetech/BIGTREETECH-TMC2209-V1.2/blob/master/manual/TMC2209-V1.2-manual.pdf, so you can use it to connect the TwoTrees module.
