how can I get started on a Dots and boxes game with GUI?
1 project | reddit.com/r/cpp_questions | 16 Nov 2021
SFML is probably the easiest c++ gui framework for games https://www.sfml-dev.org
Confused about beginning application development using c++. Pls help.

For games, pick a game engine or multimedia library. SFML is a good one, but feel free to try anything else.
Should I put my github link on my resume?
2 projects | reddit.com/r/learnprogramming | 11 Nov 2021
I'd have each project referenced as a hyperlink directly to that github project. Like this. Then by your contact info, you'd put a link to the root account in plain text so if somone prints it they can navigate there manually. Like this:
objc: Attempt to use unknown class 0x100c18180 on MacOS ARM M1
1 project | reddit.com/r/sfml | 29 Oct 2021
Have you tried using the master version from github? There was some problems with M1 on mac in 2.5, but they made a PR to address it
Is it a waste of time learning OpenGL for a toy project?

You could use instead SFML. The alternative is having to learn how to do that using an specific OS.

There are such librarys, in college we used SFML as the library. Its basically a canvas library, and thus works well.
advice of game dev for C++

For C++ 2D games I recommend looking into SFML. It handles graphics, sound and input. They also have good basic tutorials on their page.

Making a game in C++

I'll trust you've had experience in these things, the only thing I'd point out is that SFML is now implementing a keyboard scancode feature

vcpkg seems to be the one that gets most visibility these days.
I really don't understand how to get libtcod to work after installing it with VCPKG

Build2 seems to have the right idea.

ah libpq the perl monster on windows generating msbuild files. I wonder if the autotools/configure script could be used on windows instead. The vcpkg recipe is also horrendous: https://github.com/microsoft/vcpkg/blob/master/ports/libpq/portfile.cmake and even requires conditional patching depending on the config relaese/debug13 projects | reddit.com/r/cpp | 19 Nov 2021
This isn't what vcpkg is doing. The portfiles are written in CMake. These are not the project-specific build files.
what's the hate for CMake all about? Is CMake really that bad?
6 projects | reddit.com/r/cpp | 15 Nov 2021
vcpkg now supports manifests and versions. You can have a vcpkg.json file in your project where you specify which packages and which versions of those packages you depend on.

And your CMake would just install it for you:
It ended up requiring more changes than this, but in the end I wound up fixing the CMake build so it spit out both the VST3 SDK (helper classes) shared lib and the almost-header-only lib ("pluginterfaces" directory).
I ought to upload the patches somewhere in case it's useful for you/anyone else.

For practice, I suggest learning how to use one of package managers that emerged lately (I prefer vcpkg, but YMMV) and build something small but real with existing libraries; some ideas:
How to include header file without specifying directory on visual studio? (e.g. <gtkmm.h> instead of <gtkmm-4.0/gtkmm.h>)
1 project | reddit.com/r/cpp_questions | 30 Aug 2021
I've been struggling with this exact same problem all night and finally came across this issue on the vcpkg github.
