I may have sent you on a bit of a wild goose chase here, sorry mate.. It appears like PIL may not use libpng at all, or that it is only used on Windows for some reason. How do I create a program that reacts to color change?
Lets break down the problem space (this should be your first step with any program anyway). You'd need something that can sample pixel data from your display. For that I'd use something like Pillow. Then, for generating your simulated input events (mouse clicks/movement, keypresses, etc...) something like Pynput should suffice.

Re: Plotting, I don't have experience in python plotting beyond the odd 2d plot, but maybe plotly or ipyvolume would be useful for non-interactive visualization?

ipyvolume It allows for interactive 3d plots in jupyter notebook. Itβs the coolest thing Iβve ever seen.
