Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.
OpenMQTTGateway
- OpenMQTTGateway v1.6.0 released
- 433MHz on a Pi Zero - possible?
-
Somfy remote - CC1101 and "NodeMCU v3"
And the package https://github.com/1technophile/OpenMQTTGateway should have everything setup as a straight forward package to get started

ESP8266 Adventures
To manually configure the network and MQTT I added the following to User_config.h:
What I didn't know is that the ESP8266 is not just a Wifi module, it can be programmed and even run a web server inside. Of course there was a community leveraging this for IOT, and they led me to OpenMQTTGateway. This project collects various signals and sensor from IOT devices and sends it to a queue to be used by HomeAutomation services such as Home Assistant. Given my astonishment of the capacity of this module of course I didn't have any tools that would make my life easier in programming it.

Are there any self-hostable smart home platforms that are compatible with SmartLife/Tuya and hardware buttons?
Once you've got a bridge, you'll need to flash it with alternative firmware, and set up an MQTT broker. Home assistant has a broker addon that you can install which will simplify this process. There is a detailed guide here which pretty much leads you all the way to a working setup: https://docs.openmqttgateway.com/.

room-assistant v2.13 - track room presence of iOS devices using BLE
Dumb question here, can I use room-assistant together with other ble receiving software (like this) so that in the same box I can do both presence detection and monitor a ble thermometer? Or would the two apps ‘fight’ for Bluetooth chip time?

Some whole house audio and presence detection use cases
Also, I am using the bluetooth on the Pi to drive Room Assistant, to tell which room I'm in and automatically switch on the audio in that room when I am in that room, and switch it off when I leave. It also has support for the grid-eye sensor which looks like the flir sensor you useThere's also a similar project for ESP32 called ESPresence.

Are bluetooth beacons still the best way to do location tracking in a building?
Check out Room Assistant. I have 9 RaspberryPi Zeros set up around my house and these do a great job tracking which rooms our cats are in, provided that we put a tiny BLE dongle on their collar.

I miss my self-hosting hobby
Earlier I had six raspberry pi's spread around the house to try out new things (e.g. room level presence detection - which did not work well despite weeks of tuning - and as snapcast clients). But it became a pita to keep watch over so many independent systems, updating them, remembering the IP, passwords, forgetting what I have installed last time, etc. This is what I like with the whole docker thing: fire up a container, tweak it, and then if it is not used delete it again without affecting the other services.

Home Assistant – open-source home automation
There's a project called "room-assistant", however you'd need to have multiple Raspberry Pis running it in various locations...

Triangulation by WiFi and Bluetooth for presence in rooms?
You can try room-assistant. It takes your Bluetooth devices and calculates distance, works quite nice in my environment for in room detection.

room-assistant v2.13 - track room presence of iOS devices using BLE
There is a list of releases with detailed changelogs available on GitHub.
Unfortunately not, room-assistant doesn't support anything ESP. There is an issue open that would allow you to use ESPHome or something similar on your ESPs and room-assistant together with mqtt_room in Home Assistant at least. That wouldn't allow for detecting iOS devices on the ESPs though.
What are some alternatives?
SmartRC-CC1101-Driver-Lib - This driver library can be used for many libraries that use a simple RF ASK module, with the advantages of the cc1101 module. It offers many direct setting options as in SmartRF Studio and calculates settings such as MHz directly.

ESPHome-Arduino-Port-Expander - An Arduino Port Expander for ESPHome with added Arduino Mega 2560 support
monitor - Distributed advertisement-based BTLE presence detection reported via mqtt
find3 - High-precision indoor positioning framework, version 3.
Home Assistant - :house_with_garden: Open source home automation that puts local control and privacy first.
EMS-ESP32 - ESP32 firmware to read and control EMS and Heatronic compatible equipment such as boilers, thermostats, solar modules, and heat pumps
