Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Nextzen has freely available DEM tile data to zoom level 15, so about 5 meters/pixel. You need a free API key 
Mapbox has paid DEM data to zoom level 20, but I think it's just zoom level 15 scaled up (but the data is cleaner and more recent) 
Nextzen also open-sourced their elevation tile generator, but I haven't tried to generate my own tiles
