2025 was a disaster for Windows 11 as bugs and intrusive features erode trust
The only thing keeps Windows 11 usable for me are these two mods..
https://github.com/valinet/ExplorerPatcher
https://github.com/open-shell/open-shell-menu/
They bring back the context menu and the old task bar, as well as the old start menu. It's like I never left Windows 10.

Windows 7 marketshare jumps to nearly 10% as Windows 10 support ends
I use a few utilities to tame Windows 11 and make it work more like Windows 7, 8, and 10. It should get rid of that "Remind me again" thing, I haven't seen it in a long, long time.

Windows 11 Start menu ads are now rolling out to everyone
I've been very happy happy with https://github.com/Open-Shell/Open-Shell-Menu as a Start Menu replacement. If ads have rolled out to my Windows install, I wouldn't even notice.

Windows XP 2024 Edition is everything I want from a new OS
Whenever I set up a new computer for older family members, despite it being windows 11, I always install open shell[1] and retro bar[2]. Between the two, I've made the operating system look very close to Windows XP visually, and they always appreciate it.

How do I remove the recommended thing in the start menu, or add more space for pinned apps?
There is also Open Shell, a free and open source tool which performs a similar function.

What is a piece of software that you need but doesn't exist?
I wish so bad there is a port (a fork) of the Legacy Kickoff start menu for Windows: https://github.com/Open-Shell/Open-Shell-Menu/issues/1083

You may already know about it but I'll recommend it regardless just in case anybody else has never seen or heard about it.
ShareX: https://github.com/ShareX/ShareX
Is a phenomenal, Open Source (GPL3) screenshot utility for windows that absolutely kicks ass. Slices, dices, reads qrcodes, uploads to custom s3 locations, captures video, the list of it's features is long.

Devlog: Hacktoberfest 2024 (2/4)
I made sure to document every step of the way via screenshots to ensure I could test enabling and disabling certain features. The screenshot tool I use on Windows is called, ShareX, and I find it extremely useful with regards to pointing out certain elements in an image.

Flameshot – Powerful, yet simple to use open-source screenshot software
I've been using ShareX (https://getsharex.com/) for some years, which is also open-source, and very featureful while not feeling too bloated, though Windows only.
I'll have to have a look at this next time I'm on a Linux desktop, as I found the options lacking compared to ShareX last time I looked.
