OctoDash VS mainsail

The latest version of Pi OS (bullseye) broke the touch functions and some people are having luck rolling back the drivers. Head over to the github and read through because there are a few different fixes people have said worked for them. https://github.com/UnchartedBull/OctoDash/issues

It sounds like you only want it to run when you want, not automatically? I am not sure about Octoscreen, I only used that for a while before switching to Octodash ( no particular reason, I think it was the newer plugin when I was reloading the Rpi). I think Octodash asks if you want to run it automatically during the setup , so there is a procedure to run it only when you went. But it was easier to just run it all the time and I think there was a command to stop it when I didn’t want it. May not help, but though I would mention it. Also if you haven't heard of OctoDash I would definitely suggest you've it a try.

Octoprint has a built-in API server too which is documented here. There are several alternative frontends that use the API. Most popular being probably OctoDash and OctoScreen, and several mobile apps. But also the "Send to printer" button in your slicer uses that API, and of course OctoPrint's UI itself.

Hey i see there is a lot off progress with hacking and using the carthing for multiply applications... I hade an idea of using this to replace or add it to a 3d printer... There is an chrome extension that allows to control a 3d printer with serial output threw usb (gcode-sender). There are some really nice open source interfaces (octo-dash). (just an idea of how it look like). The main question is... can we hack carthing to send serial code through usb or from one of his test point on the board?

You may be able to get similar functionality with OctoDash and Octoprint.

Klipper is awesome and once it’s installed and up and running I can control my printer via my LAN network and upload STL’s and control the printer using the Mainsail Web interface. https://docs.mainsail.xyz

I prefer Klipper. It requires another computer (such as a raspberry pi) but it is so much easier to modify and make changes. It also has built in leveling functions and other great benefits. https://docs.mainsail.xyz/ https://www.klipper3d.org/

My recommendation if your just setting up: do yourself a huge favor and do not use OctoPrint. Instead I recommend using Mainsail of Fluidd. They’re both great web interfaces designed specifically for Klipper. Very fast, lightweight and take advantage of all available Klipper functions. Octoprint is very resource hungry.

Convert that thing to a corexy via Mercury One, throw a Stealthburner on it, and get yourself a raspberry pi to run Klipper/Mainsail.

In the past I used OctoPrint, but now I moved to Mainsail, because it has a better ui and some plugins are directly build in. You can install Kiauh and use it to install Mainsail or Fluidd next to OctoPrint.

Personally I prefer Mainsail. But Fluidd is also popular.

If you can get ahold of a Raspberry Pi, MainsailOS is a prebuilt sd card image that has everything preinstalled.
