I'm using Nextcloud for calendar and tasks, and I keep notes in plain markdown files that are also synced with Nextcloud. On Android I use Nextcloud Notes, Nextcloud Tasks and

These are by far the best note and calendar apps I've used. Far better than Google's options. Apple's reminders are a bit better than Nextcloud Tasks, but the only feature I'm sorely lacking there is repeating tasks. Google doesn't support this either, which leads me to believe that it's a shortcoming of the CalDav spec for tasks.

I'm using Nextcloud to host my calendar. On my work Mac, I connect to it using Fantastical. On my personal Ubuntu machine I use GNOME Calendar, and on Android I use

Everything is seamless for me, though admittedly I'm not a super heavy calendar user.

I plan to do a write up on my whole Google-free setup, but I haven't done it yet, unfortunately.

What do you need in a calendar service that you can't find elsewhere?

I use the Calendar app with NextCloud[0] for a CalDAV server + calendar web interface. It's fully-featured as far as I can tell. I use its CalDAV functionality to sync to my Android phone using DAVx^5[1], which integrates the calendars natively so that you can use whatever calendar app you want on your phone (I use Etar[2]).
