Is there a way to have multiple virtual monitors while only having 1 physical monitor?
few overlay apps on steam allow for this. i like desktopplus >> https://github.com/elvissteinjr/DesktopPlus

Than you to everyone that came out to see The Bandalorians last night and packing our house! Our ship is always open to anyone. Video of the show coming soon!
I still think you remember the wrong name here, https://github.com/elvissteinjr/DesktopPlus only does Desktop mirroring, while https://www.vrdesktop.net/ does what you said.

How to Use SteamVR (Guide)
Desktop+
-
Desktop+ Version 2.6 now available
btw. if you don't mind reading, the User Guide adds a few sentences for each setting and has some step-by-step guides at the end. Most of those guides have a lot of steps... yeah, that's something that also gets ironed out in the new UI.
More details about the additions can be found in the Steam announcement. The new release can be found on Steam as well as on the GitHub page, in the releases section.

VR vs. Triples: What they don’t tell you...
Just one thing I'd like to add: you absolutely can have overlays and even complete desktops in VR. Like everything else it's a hassle to set up, but once it works it works. I use Desktop+ for SteamVR (https://github.com/elvissteinjr/DesktopPlus/tree/master) which is free and open source, although there are several alternatives including CrewChief's very own VR overlays.

Anything like PSVR theater mode to use desktop just like normal? (without taking off head set!)
https://github.com/elvissteinjr/DesktopPlus looks like a good starting point for an app that doesn't use SteamVR. SteamVR was first so it has a lot of buy in. I think with OpenXR replacing WMR that all VR devices ought to work now without SteamVR as long as the OpenXR implementation provided by WMR services them, which it ought to.

Virtual Desktop Options?
Launching Desktop+ manually from its executable does not invoke Steam at all. If you need auto-launch alongside SteamVR but without Steam, use the standalone build available on GitHub and uninstall the Steam version.

Anyone know of any apps that allow a small controller hud where you can see your monitor?
If you're totally lost, there's also a simple step-by-step guide, however.
What are some alternatives?
