can you use https://mediaarea.net/MediaInfo and post the text output. maybe there is something malformed in the source that the render engine is unhappy with. as soon as i see sync issues that dont make any sense, i always blame the source media and look to reencode it or somehow repackage it (like with handbrake) into a known and not wierdo format. remember mp4 is just a box. there might be a cat in that box, there might not be a cat at all.
  • Plexamp/Plex - Many album tracks don't get disc number metadata - Disc Undefined

If you're using the Plex Music agent/scanner, the settings in the agent tab can be ignored - they only apply if you use that specific agent (Personal Media Albums, Audiobooks, or Last.fm). As others have said I'd take a look at the metadata tags outside of Plex with MediaInfo or Picard. Even if you don't have Prefer local metadata checked, I believe Plex will still use it if the tags aren't available in online metadata.

When ripping 4K discs with MakeMKV, it's not choosing DV over HDR10, it's ripping both. If you then try to play it on something that supports HDR, but not DV, it should seamlessly fall back to HDR10. If you open the files in MediaInfo, it should show something like this, indicating it has both DV and HDR10: https://i.imgur.com/fFLy9uz.png

If you use something like MediaInfo to inspect those files, my guess is that those subtitles are embedded into the files themselves.

Is it only one show this is happening for, or is it everything/most things? If it's only a subset of items, can you post the full media info (video/audio/subtitle format, either via Get Info or a third-party tool like MediaInfo)? Also, knowing what Plex is trying to do with the file when you play it at original quality would be helpful. The expanded Now Playing section of the dashboard should show you what's going on. Without that info it's hard to answer your questions, but in general,

There are several ways to check what codecs/formats your media is using. You can use Get Info within Plex, an external program like MediaInfo, or look at the 'Now Playing' section of the dashboard when something's playing, which will also tell you whether the video/audio/subtitles are playing directly or transcoding.

Are the subtitles EIA-608 (Get Info or MediaInfo should tell you)? If so, they're not "normal" subtitles, but Closed Captions, which behave a bit differently. If your TV has Closed Captions settings you can try disabling them on the TV itself, but others haven't had success with that. Other than that, your only option may be to remove them from the file with something like ffmpeg.
