Mailspring VS LibreOffice

I was hopeful that https://www.nylas.com/ would be the de-facto "adapter" placing a common API surface on top of the major providers and dragging them into a modern-API world. They even had an email client of their own as a proof of concept (forked by one of the original authors as https://github.com/Foundry376/Mailspring - and its reusable core https://github.com/Foundry376/Mailspring-Sync may be interesting to many here). But they've pivoted towards making their API only available behind B2B contracts and opaque pricing, and primarily used for corporate email monitoring and CRM use cases - perhaps because security and privacy considerations are nontrivial. I'm still rooting for them but it's a shadow of what it could have been.

The UI uses Electron, but the actual sync engine is in C++, so it's pretty fast.

Mailspring, which is open source, is currently my recommendation for a desktop email client.

For email, I'd like to recommend Mailspring. Free, and the best mail app imo in Windows 11 compared to other similar one.

Try LibreOffice or OpenOffice .

Both Apache OpenOffice and LibreOffice are descendents of the original OpenOffice (what you're probably thinking about.)

LibreOffice is under very active development and can be downloaded from https://www.libreoffice.org/

Apache OpenOffice is effectively abandonware at this point, see https://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/Product_Release It's mostly been maintenance releases since 2013.

If you want LibreOffice with support (or just want to support development), you probably want Collabora.

Another recommendation for LibreOffice. I've been using it on both macOS and Windows for over a decade. I had used the original OpenOffice and switched to LibreOffice when it was forked off.

You make a good argument, I've made a new version with the change you suggested. There now are 8 spots for Backgrounds. I've only put it in the Excel version, since thanks to the amazing suggestion of @UnitGhidorah, https://www.libreoffice.org/ is an much better free alternative to Google.
