Have you ever used "mob" as a verb in game?
Here are the files for MUD1, which certainly predates diku. I haven't bothered looking at the code (zero knowledge of bcpl), but I'm guessing .mob files aren't generated by it.

Any open-source muds WITH worlds included?
Its probably more of academic interest than anything else, but the original Essex MUD (aka MUD1, British Legends) is available with source code and source mudlib using a GNU 3 licence. The downside is you will need a Dec PDP10 to run it. https://github.com/PDP-10/MUD1

Where to get started making a MUD?
Try DikuMUD if you want C. It's a classic, so will have the classic feel to it, but DikuMUD 3 is relatively new and includes a webclient, looks like the developer also has a discord so you can probably ask questions. https://github.com/Seifert69/DikuMUD3

Rehoming my old AberMUD zones/quests
Not sure which codebase that mud ran on… if it was DIKU the project is now fully open-source and you could contribute them there! It’s under active development by some pretty cool folks, including Michael Seifert. https://github.com/Seifert69/DikuMUD3

Let's talk about MUD and AI
Over the last few years there’s been a tremendous amount of work put into the DIKU mud engine. We have a very active development, and there are a few compelling areas to explore AI. Check out the project at https://github.com/Seifert69/DikuMUD3 and the mud at Valhalla.com:4242

Ask HN: Are MUDs Still a Thing?
Yes, the Diku codebase was recently updated to Diku3 and a web socket version of Valhalla is currently running.
