MPV not MPC. MPC is a relic at this point, despite the forks. MPV is a command line based player with some community built UI wrappers. This is a good starter you can then customize to your liking with additional scripts etc.

Is Mpv worth it even if you don't use scripts?
try mpv.net if you are on windows, it's based on mpv but gives you enough options to not feel lost, mpv-easy player is also another excellent option if you want eye candy and extra skins.

Yeah I agree. I've actually switched now to MPV-EASY Player. With that one I don't have the download issue in edge.
