Whisky is no longer actively maintained
> Does something like Whisky work in the new macOS Apple Silicon world?
From what I understand, Whisky only works with macOS Sonoma and Sequoia anyway.
Kegworks [1] works with Mavericks and Ventura, and WineBottler before that.

OpenRA – Classic strategy games rebuilt for the modern era
I've just finished both campaigns (and moving on to Firestorm!) on my M1 Macbook by running the game through https://www.portingkit.com/ .
It guides you through installation and wraps the game in Wine and other layers as its own .Application for running on both arm or intel macs.
Also see https://github.com/Kegworks-App/Kegworks (the upstream tech leveraged by Porting Kit) which i've used for various modern games to great effect.

Running Windows Programs on Mac (Wineskin)
I used Wineskin to port them both to MacOS and the https://www.pcmag.com/how-to/how-to-run-windows-apps-on-your-mac web page as a guide. I just used a regular windows .ico file to change the icon in the guide. Somehow converting the .ico as it is stated in the guide did not work for me. You can download Wineskin Winery from (https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer) and use manual installation. They both needed .NET framework. That was easy with the Winetricks to find the .NET frameworks under DLL section and then run them. 1st program needed to access network shares in the domain but the link was in windows format (\\ServerName\ShareName\Folder).

Need to run polymath on mac apple silicon
You can also try running it in WINE using Wineskin:https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer/

Valve Says Counter-Strike 2 for macOS Not Happening, There Aren't Enough Players

Horizon: Zero Dawn slo-mo
Can anyone demonstrate to me how to fix the slo-mo issue in Horizon: Zero Dawn that slows down the game speed. I am aware of the GitHub article here: https://github.com/Gcenx/WineskinServer/issues/424 although I am unaware of how to perform the registry tasks that is required to fix the issue.

iOS
I do play on an M2 Mac via Wineskin. Works great.

Any way to run .exe files on Mac?
I use this wrapper for WINE. That it "doesn't seem to work" when you use what you've installed from the command line doesn't tell us much. What did you do after installing it? What happened?

Technicalities of Homeworld 2 Backgrounds
> I know that Game Porting Toolkit exists
There's a wrapper over this called Whisky (https://getwhisky.app) that makes it really straightforward to install and run Steam or other Windows binaries.
I use it on an M1 Air and an M1 Pro. Less demanding titles run very well, heavier games like Cyberpunk 2077 don't really reach a stable 30fps even with Steam Deck-like settings so keep your expectations in check.

Apple M4 MacBook Air review: I have no notes
Windows and Linux are running OT2 in the application's native instruction set, for one.
But if you want to try, you can use Whiskey.

Nearly half of Steam's users are still using Windows 10
Not emulating the full OS, but I use Whisky Wine <https://getwhisky.app/> to play TF2 / TF2Classic and it's fine.

Dwarf Fortress Adventure Mode – Out Now – Official Release Trailer [video]
Stream says it's "playable" on Steam OS, which might mean it works under Wine. So, you could try running the windows version in https://github.com/Whisky-App/Whisky . It often works wonders, even on ARM Macs.
You can also try to set up a Linux vm with hardware-accelerated graphics with UTM or VmWare or Parallels, but I'm less familiar with this route for games, and it might be hard since you need either x64 Linux or Rosetta, and hardware acceleration at the same time. (It might be easier if you have an Intel Mac)

Team Fortress 2 Classic (TF2C) v2.2 "Double Down Update" Released
I've been back into this game in a big way lately. TF2C is a re-imagining of the 2008 era of TF2, now evolving in its own way that tries to stay true to the original spirit of the game versus Valve using TF2 to invent loot boxes in 2010, ruining it and the rest of the industry forever.
For those who want to play on Mac, I have had perfect results with Whisky Wine: https://getwhisky.app/
Create a Wine Prefix, use Whisky's built in WineTricks to install `dsound` to fix sound-stuttering freezes w/r/t voice chat, then install Windows Steam in Wine and follow the rest of the Windows setup instructions on the TF2C site. I am updating to 2.2 now so I can play after work today — the hype is real! https://i.imgur.com/tqUk1xX.png

Steam Deck hits 17,000 games playable and verified
Give Whisky a shot. Yeah, it’s a 20 year old game, but I was able to get Half-Life 2 running at 1080p with all settings maxed on my Mac Mini. The only slow down I experienced was when a bunch of barrels exploded at the same time.

Half-Life 2: 20th Anniversary Update
I just installed* it. It run well, although I don’t recommend playing it with a Magic Mouse.
* I first installed Whisky, a Wine/Game Porting toolkit/app thingy (https://getwhisky.app). Then I installed Steam for Windows inside Whisky, then downloaded HL2. The download was a little bit hiccup-y, but it worked. Testplay of HL2 was great, apart from the mouse.

An Update on Apple M1/M2 GPU Drivers
> People booting linux on their macs to play games would really annoy Apple probably.
You dont have to boot Linux to play PC games on Mac.
Apple already provides the tools you need to build a Mac native equivalent to Proton.
There are several options built using those tools, both paid {Crossover) and free/open source (Whisky).
Whisky combines Wine, Apple's Rosetta, and Apple's DirectX emulation layer (The Game Porting Toolkit) into an easy to use free and open source tool for running PC games on Mac.
