My favourite Git commit (2019)
This bad commit message keeps resurfacing on HN front page like beach litter. I would just go with "Remove non-breaking space characters" instead of writing a Russian novel. Also, if you're on macOS just use a Karabiner rule [0] that converts all non-breaking space characters to regular space characters to prevent yourself from accidentally typing it out.

emacs has ruined my navigation in other apps
On macOS I use Karabiner-Elements. I remapped right Command to Control and now have two Control and two Meta keys, and can use one hand for modifier keys and the other for letter. For the occasional Command I use the left one. I’ve also extended a bit Emacs complex modifications and I’m quite happy withe the setup. Caveat: I think that due to how I use modifier keys the double keys combinations don’t always work. But have never debugged it deeper.

Mouse integrated on the keyboard
I'm using mouse keys with karabiner: https://ke-complex-modifications.pqrs.org/. It emulates a mouse with the keyboard. It works quite well.
- Mouseable: Replace a Mouse or Tackpad with the Keyboard

Ask HN: Skill you want to learn in 2022?
You can use https://karabiner-elements.pqrs.org/ to change that. It would either require writing your own complex modification, or maybe it's already somewhere in their public repo https://ke-complex-modifications.pqrs.org/?q=german
Other solution would be to use something like Keyboard Maestro.

Corne with track button in oled?
Probably worth saying there are a handful of alternatives (I've tried most and ShortCat is my favorite): * Wooshy * Vimac * HomeRow * SuperKey * VimMotionApp

Vim Keybindings Everywhere – The Ultimate List
If you like vimium, there's an app called Vimac that's like vimium but for macOS. So you can control all kinds of apps with they keyboard like in vimium.

I made a Mac productivity app that helps you click on buttons & links with the keyboard
It is inspired by Vimium! In fact, when I when 17, I made Vimac (https://vimacapp.com) because I had wrist pain from a semester of using the trackpad to do Figma + Photoshop, and really wished there was Vimium for the entire OS. Few years later now, I've reworked the workflow incorporating the lessons I've learned and called it Homerow.
P.S. I also made Vimac (https://vimacapp.com) a few years back. Homerow is a more polished and performant version of Vimac, taking into account all the things I learned from its predecessor.

What features is Gnome missing according to you
I would like to have an equivalent to vimac.

VI-bindings everywhere - does it exist?
System wide, if you use a Mac check out KindaVim and Homerow or its unmaintained predecessor Vimac

Vimac: for navigating the UI without moving the trackpad
-
after kindaVim that adds Vim moves to any UI element on macOS, here's my second app: Wooshy. reach those UI elements through searching the whole macOS UI.
Is this similar to vimac?
- Use your Mac only using Keyboard

How do you get over wanting to use VIM motions throughout the OS?
I'm also mostly a macOS user at the moment, but have been using desktop Linux more since most of my "software toolkit" is FOSS anyway so it's a pretty lateral transition. But I did recently start using Vimac to get Vimium-like hjkl and f-like mouse movement on non-browser windows. It's actually a little more robust than most of the Vim-like browser extensions.
What are some alternatives?
