Google has created like 7 different ways to build the same thing out of which 6+-1 are deprecated, either code-wise or due to obsolescence (and things that just should be deprecated instead of pushed ahead forcefully) so now what a Junior needs to know is solid Android fundamentals (Activity, Fragment, UI basics, RecyclerView, FrameLayout, LinearLayout, ConstraintLayout, etc), networking fundamentals and Retrofit, relational DB fundamentals, threading fundamentals, Java/Kotlin fundamentals, UI fundamentals, localization / string resources and drawables on Android, merge layouts and styleables, styles, Fragments, RecyclerView, am I repeating myself

I actually was thinking of Telegram initially as it's kind of a meme at this point, but at least in the "ChatActivity" code that extends BaseFragment that in reality is just a view, it actually holds a sense of intent and structure, even if it grew beyond its limits due to lack of proper composition (see compound viewgroups as a possibility).

The first I would recommend is Signal, it is privacy friendly, has dark interface, it's simple and easy to use, but requires SMS verification.

- For communications... Hands down, use Signal messenger for all important communications between friends and family. It's FOSS, has the same functions as Whatsapp, is E2EE and privacy focused, and you can send pretty much any file type to any other person using Signal. This also replaces SMS/MMS on Android. Signal is discontinuing support of SMS/MMS due to telecom companies finally upgrading to RCS standard protocols. If you use Android, I'd recommend the basic SMS/MMS app QKSMS from F-Droid. If you still use email, ProtonMail is a very good, free, and secure email provider.

I run a (legit) call center and I've had it with 10DLC. I'm going to start moving most of my higher volume SMS clients over to Signal just as soon as I have the integration finished. I'm DONE with getting called at 2 in the morning because a water company technician isn't getting SMS notifications because X carrier decided they didn't like the messages I'm sending for some arbitrary reason, despite registering my brand, campaigns, and message types as accurately as I can with my SMS carrier.

For years now Dennis Ameling has been producing Windows on ARM (WOA) builds for Signal. Do we know why Signal doesn't do this work for him? If one motivated developer can pull this off, it seems like the Signal team should be able to as well. It'd be nice to download an ARM build from the signal.org site directly.
