Whatever happened to SHA-256 support in Git?
5 projects | news.ycombinator.com | 23 Jun 2022
as the article says, you can create a local git repository with SHA-256 hashes today, and it should work fine...but the moment you try to push your repo up to Github, you'll hit a break wall.
Gitlab also appears to be lacking support , and the same with Gitea .
so it's a grey area where Git itself supports SHA-256-based repos, but without the major Git hosting services also supporting them, the support in core Git is somewhat useless.

Gitea – a painless self-hosted Git service
Here's a good sample file. The cyclomatic complexity is through the roof: note the variable assignments, function calls, string concatenation, large number of `if`/`else if`s, nested conditional expressions (line 254). I don't even want to know how many permutations of this page are possible...
> but the entire team that works on it is based out in China
Looks like only some of the top contributors (from the ones who list a location on their profile) are in China.
Gitea's built-in registry will be in 1.17, so you can remove Nexus to simplify your stack further.
