Marlin for CNC?
I tried to implement Marlin support in my GRBL-Plotter and it was not simple: E.g. Command for position feedback needs to be injected to normal gcode. In grbl an asynchrone '?' delivers the actual position - much more easy... I definetly would go with grbl. https://github.com/svenhb/GRBL-Plotter

Pen plotter servo is acting strange

What is the grbl error number? Which grbl-sender do you use? Where comes the GCode from? Did you try other software (e.g. GRBL-Plotter 😊 https://github.com/svenhb/GRBL-Plotter)?

G code lock
If you don't get a grbl error number (check https://github.com/gnea/grbl/wiki/Grbl-v1.1-Interface#grbl-response-messages) I assume it is a LaserGRBL specific error. You may ask via GitHub Issue https://github.com/arkypita/LaserGRBL/issues
