Files VS Notepads

This explorer replacement has tagging https://files.community/

I have the https://files.community/ app installed because I like the modern UI, but it's just too darn slow.

Dear u/Daddy_Spez So I was downloading from files.community and during the installation this error showed up ''App installation failed with error message: error 0x80070422: Opening the package from location Files.Package_2.5.11.0_x64_ARM64_Preview.msixbundle failed. (0x80070422)'' I tried enabling windows update service as told by youtube but that didnt work. Pls help

This is everybody's regular scheduled reminder that files is just better than Explorer.

Is this a real app? If not, I recommend you to suggest these changes to https://files.community

I use Files instead of Explorer because of crap like this.

You could try a third-party alternative (The one I use is Files)

As far as I could tell it's a UWP app specific issue (ie calculator, file explorer, paint3D). Nothing happens in these apps when i try to paste something, calculator even crashes if i try to copy, and I know nothing gets put into the clipboard as the last thing i copied from a non-UWP app is still possible to paste in other non-UWP apps. I verified this using powershell with the Get-Clipboard command. Notepad works fine, but afaik it's not UWP. I do have a custom UWP notepad installed (https://github.com/0x7c13/Notepads) which DOES have this issue.

Notpads maybe work for you. It keeps everything saved automatically.

You make a good few points, though the base already exists, and is open source! You can contribute here and bring the few features you think the Notepads app currently lacks.

Notepads is a good FOSS alternative to the default windows notepad. That said, stop storing your passwords in a text file. Consider using a password manager like Bitwarden and KeepassXC instead.

If you're doing research, you should learn to use Zotero too and search the right tool for you. There are a lot of options, the best -to me- are Obsidian, Zettlr (before 2.0.0), Joplin and Vim (haven´t tried emacs enough to say anything). I also use a simple text editor like Notepads (Windows) or Nano for quick notes ([espanso](espanso.org) can be useful if you want to use quick templates too).

but the problems is not native software really, it's Microsoft software. their modern TEXT EDITOR breaks on large text files because their fucking RichTextEditor component can't fucking handle pagination https://github.com/JasonStein/Notepads/issues/10

That's not the default windows notepad. It's an app called Notepads. It is free and open-source, and it is very fast too. It is also available on the Microsoft store here
