Using a planner like YAFC, Foreman, Helmod, and Factory Planner is highly recommended. Also, the following mods are recommended for a megabase needed to finish a high-multiplier game:

FactoryPlanner or Helmod - Helps designing production chains. Quite complex at start, but well worth it. Factory Planner is the newer and cleaner design.

I personally use the Factory Planner mod because it has some nice in-game features like automatic blueprints from the calculation.

I mostly use Factory Planner and Max Rate Calculator.

There is a mod for that, and a mod for that, and a website for that, and another website for that, and a standalone application for that for big modpacks like Seablock and Py

Using a calculator for Vanilla is pretty convenient or when playing modded, Factory Planner helps a ton.

i really hope you don't play SE without Factory Planner or a similar mod because that just sounds like pain

But I do a bit of planning for individual outposts/subfactories just to get a sense of what the ratios are, and I use the Factorio Planner mod (or Helmod) for that. And I use Rate Calculator (or Max Rate Calculator) nice for measuring stuff. And I'll admit to having a spreadsheet for calculating reactor ratios.
