Is there any FOSS calendar or planner app that includes alarms?
I use Etar with DAVx5 to sync from my CalDAV calendars. You can use it by itself too, but then obviously there is no sync between applications (I use Thunderbird on my desktops).

A group of open source Android apps without ads and unnecessary permissions
I would be wary of using their calendar app. It has had a long-standing bug in basic timezone / DST handling:

Google is about to make life more difficult for custom ROM fans
Most custom ROMs don't seem to use the AOSP dialer anyway. I've mostly seen forks with some nice features Google's dialer still lacks (called recording, for one).
AOSP hasn't been a useful Android distribution for years. Luckily, you can make it useful through third party apps like the Simple apps: https://www.simplemobiletools.com/

Need a basic messaging app that doesn't demand camera access.
https://www.simplemobiletools.com/ has other apps you might be interested in. If you install them from other repositories, like F-Droid, Droid-ify, Neo-Store, you can get their Pro version for free instead of paying for them in the Play store.
