Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

[Idea Proposal] Nano Merchant Database
It totally does need to be included into wallets. Is the merchants page up to date? I used a page on nano.org once and the site I clicked on hadn't been up for over a year.

i have a question how many transactions can nano handle in 1 second?
For ledger bloat, see: Pruning and the Bounded Block Backlog
-
Survival, recession and network effects
A second option is ledger pruning. Not all transactions in the history need to be stored. What matters for the network is your current balance, and the last transaction done. So if an account has done 100,000+ transactions (yes, some have done this many), this can be pruned down to literally the last send block, saving on space. In V22, this was implemented, as experimental pruning. This is currently only available for non-PRs, but should make it easier to run a non-representative node.
The spring 2022 node dos/spam was mitigated by the unchecked memory table, vote hinting tweaks, magic byte + network byte checks, and a few other bugfixes/optimizations from 23.1 (unchecked table insert checks, better memory management, improved vote request processing, etc)
-
Visualizing the updated V24 balance buckets (62 prioritization buckets)
Additionally, the election scheduler will now consider the max of current or previous balance, so if an account sends its entire balance, it will no longer be placed in the lowest priority bucket.
V24 will update the balance buckets, so here is an update to /u/Exxenoz's table that visualizes the balance buckets.

question while understanding attacks.
*There's some interesting discussion about this on Discord. Apparently testing this on a local testnet shows different behavior, and the change rep transaction still gets processed some time (~15 minutes) after network stalling: https://www.reddit.com/r/nanocurrency/comments/y9qquw/what_are_the_biggest_criticisms_of_nano/iur4czv/.
