That being said there are some great libraries such as Down and SwiftyMarkdown have awesome markdown parsing. The only issue is that you may need to fallback to UIKit for some of the features.

Hey, I build a swift library for parsing Markdown. It process markdown to an intermediate simple tree structure data model (Abstract Syntax Tree). This approach allows to render it later to NSAttributedString, HTML, plain text.
