German privacy watchdogs conclude that Microsoft 365 is incompatible with GDPR
I use onlyoffice[0] because MS Office doesn't run on Linux. It is open source and seems to have the best compatibility with MS Office. You can self host it and/or use it locally. It also integrates with e.g. nextcloud or seafile.
Some features are missing yes, but the usability (IMO) is better than Libre-/OpenOffice.
I don't know how good the collaboration is but they seem to advertise for it.

What are the features you want most in Proton Drive?
Yes, they don't even have to reinvent online office. They could use something like https://www.onlyoffice.com/ which is open source and can be implemented in a browser.

if you move a Google Sheet or Doc from Google Drive to another disk on a computer, the sheet/doc is deleted from Drive and the .gsheet or .gdoc stored locally is useless.
There's OnlyOffice though I can't vouch for its quality as a multi-user docs / sheets replacement; I've only used it offline.

Best Simple Security Practices for Protecting Self and Tendies - Final Repost for Visibility!
- First, I would utilize a FOSS program like Cryptomator. What this does is create an encrypted space where you can throw in anything and everything and then lock it. This space can also be stored in a Google Drive account (or any online storage really), while actually remaining encrypted. Create and store the random-gen password in your Bitwarden account. And guess what?! This is also available for all major devices.

Cryptomator which gives you an easy way to create non-fixed containers, basically encrypted folders that can grow in size as you add files to them, which is very useful for file syncing with the cloud, and for storing personal files and folders without having to predetermine a size for them.

How do you start journaling when having to overcome the fear of someone reading your diary
Create a vault with cryptomator (free and open source). This will allow you to have a local directory (in your phone or computer) that you'll only be able to lock/unlock with a password. The encrypted directory is unreadable, you'll have to provide a password to access its contents.
