There's [third party](https://github.com/Javinator9889/Discord-PPA) solution available if you really want to upgrade through APT or Gnome Software Manager.

Resurrected deb repo, ticket for mainline deb / ubuntu filed
I noticed the previous bintray deb package for zig is no longer available. I setup something quick and dirty that pulls the release, packages it with checkinstall and sends it to gemfury: https://github.com/compscidr/zig-deb
