In order to participate you need to sign up here and then Submit four pull requests (PRs) to a GitHub repo tagged with the hacktoberfest label and redeem a Hacktoberfest shirt.

If you complete four pull requests in October, you'll receive a free Hacktoberfest t-shirt and a limited edition Hacktoberfest 2022 sticker pack. You can find more information about Hacktoberfest on the Hacktoberfest website.

Plus, I also contributed to an open source project, so that I could get practice working on a larger app (than one that I build). So I highly encourage everyone to do this. Check out https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/ that happens every October and is a great place to find an open source project in your preferred tech stack.

So while in bootcamp, I decided to join Major League Hacking and was apart of their fellowship. This made me stand out on my resume because I had my usual bootcamp projects, but also had projects where I collaborated on building things and using different technologies. In addition, I contributed to open source by participating in the 2020 hacktoberfest I made sure to put myself out there, show my capabilities of working on a team, and more. I used to participate in mintbean.io hackathons that happened every month. Hackathons are a great way to get experience and practice working in a group setting. It also adds the sense of urgency that is necessary in the real world. In addition, I blogged quite often to show my ability to write/document my experiences and code. In addition, I began tweeting about my experiences and staying in contact with the #devcommunity on twitter. Also, I made sure to keep my resume and Github up to date. Sometimes the little things, like a cool looking Github can make a difference.

For Hacktoberfest, you can find these projects mostly during October. Projects and issues participating will have the “Hacktoberfest” label. For 24 Pull Requests, you can find projects listed on the page while the program is active in December.

True to its name, this project served as a welcoming gateway, designed with the noble purpose of simplifying the often complex landscape of contributing to open source endeavors, particularly for those taking their first steps into this vibrant community.
