  • File compression using ‘CompactGUI’?

That's simply not true. I use compact.exe to compress all my games, its NTFS' built-in seamless compression. If you're going to give advice to someone at least make sure you know WTF you are talking about. u/Yes_This_Is_A_User use this one it's a nicer UI.

Hey, i’ve used a program called Freaky/Compacter, https://github.com/Freaky/Compactor, it worked really well for me, got 10gbps off cs go, but it doesn’t work with all games, on gta i got around 800mbps, you should give it a try, it’s a life saver!

You can free up a considerable amount of space in Windows by deleting junk files and old windows updates. Run cleanmgr as administrator first (tick all the boxes), reboot and then download and run ccleaner. Further to that, you can seriously free up a ton of space by compressing your games library and program files folders - you can use Compactor for this.

Compactor (GUI for built-in win 10 transparent compression) works really well for games, often getting 0.30x-0.65x compression ratios, game updates only decompress and patch what they need and then you just have to rerun the tool to recompress them. depending on your CPU, some games even load faster.

I just recently learned that there’s a --gui option for git difftool, which is nice because I use Kaleidoscope for heavy diffs (and merges too with git mergetool) but recently picked up delta [0] for quicker diffing in the terminal. Now I can have both easily.

  • Best diff config for vim in 2021?
    reddit.com/r/vim | 2021-07-17
Since newer diff algorithms are merged into vim and there are tools specifically designed for diffing two files, I wonder what is the best vimdiff option? Here is mine: vim " vimdiff configs if has("patch-8.1.0360") set diffopt=filler,internal,algorithm:histogram,indent-heuristic endif There is also delta which seem to have a smarter algorithm. Is there a way to use delta in vim instead?

  • Difftastic: Syntax-aware structured diff tool
    news.ycombinator.com | 2021-07-07
Thanks, this is good advice. There are some super featureful diff tools out there. For example, https://github.com/dandavison/delta does a line-based diff but it also syntax highlights its output.

I'm hoping that defining syntax in a separate TOML file will let end users extend difftastic for their own languages/config files. I want to keep difftastic small and manageable.

You'll need to be more specific if you want help. What have you tried? What worked? What didn't work? I've used delta as my primary git diff pager for a year or two now and enjoy it.
