CyberChef from GCHQ: The Cyber Swiss Army Knife
I also discovered Ciphey. Neat little tool indeed, but it's being deprecated. It's mentioned in this issue[1] and being replaced with Ares[2]. Neither could decipher this strange encryption[3] I used it on :(

Check Ciphey, I have used several times before and overall it’s great. https://github.com/Ciphey/Ciphey

In CTFs, you'll often get a string of text to decode. Is there a good way to recognize how to decode it?
It can help you detect various encryption and encodings and even decrypt them. Ciphey

LocalSend: Open-source, cross-platform file sharing to nearby devices
Some CLI alternatives if you don't need the GUI:
Croc: https://github.com/schollz/croc
Magic-Wormhole: https://github.com/magic-wormhole/magic-wormhole
I used to use MW but switched to croc as the single binary was easier to deploy.
This very hn entries is bust contradicting your statement.
Also what about syncthing[1] (for recurrent/permanent sync) and croc[2] (for one time copies) ?
I have used both for a number of years already.

How to copy a file between devices?
I have gotten a lot of use out of croc. https://github.com/schollz/croc
F-droid has an android app and the cli runs on Linux, Mac, and Windows. Super pain free. It's not a synchronization solution, but sends stuff pretty easily.

Ask HN: What are some unpopular technologies you wish people knew more about?
Check out croc, I've been using it for years, and it works pretty great too!
