r/AcademicBiblical is back from the planned 48-hour blackout, but the site-wide issues are ongoing. Explanation and request for community feedback here.
I personally don't have a problem with them killing third party apps. Does Instagram, Facebook, Imgur, Twitter, TikTok, Discord, etc., allow third party apps? I honestly have no idea, but I assume they don't? I know things like BetterDiscord exist, but those are breaking Discord's Terms of Service (although they apparently don't use any API). From Reddit's perspective, these apps are stealing users away from their official app and making money off of Reddit, all while actually costing Reddit money. It just doesn't make sense.

im trying to use BD files from github but dont know how to put them in i normally use it from betterdiscord.app so if anyone can tell me how to do it i thank you

You might be able to get your Own pictures as Discord Backgrounds!?
Here is a link to a library with these themes. You can easily install one of them by simply installing the program Better Discord and choose one of the themes in the library to replace the standard grey tone.

How safe are alternative Discord apps like Aliucord, CutTheCord for Android or Lightcord for desktop? Do they respect your privacy more than the official apps?
Slightly off topic but a warning for Lightcord, it seems like it has been abandoned.

I suggest trying out lightcord which among other improvements like better discord it also lets you start discord without those sort of updates.

Discord client crates - full clients?
Yes, there is also stuff like Lightcord and BetterDiscord (A modification of the default client, also against TOS). I suspect the standalone clients like ripcord have reverse engineered undocumented APIs (that are required for a full client) from network traffic but I really cant say for certain.

Right now I'm personally using Lightcord, and I found it much more better and private. But it's not a panacea.
