There's software called Al Dente that you can use to set a hard limit on your battery charge at all times. It's what I use in my setup where I use an M1 MBP hooked up to a 4K display with power delivery, so it's basically a Mac Mini when I'm at home. There's a workaround that I have not tested, but given the aforementioned software solutions I consider the hassle unnecessary.

I tested out 5 of the best third party macOS video players to see how they compare in HDR support for the new MacBook Pros. Infuse and Movist Pro seem to be the only ones capable of HDR playback at the moment, with IINA being the worse causing the video to loose detail and being washed out.

I found related reports for players: - https://github.com/iina/iina/issues/1981 - https://github.com/mpv-player/mpv/issues/5498 (here second method shows HDR-like looking screenshot, but it's actually SDR image normalized from HDR)
Do you have any guess as to why VLC's audio would be distorted, while Quicktime's is fine?

Download IINA (competitor to VLC) and see if the problem happens in it.

Both VLC and IINA support HDR playback, but they are tonemapped.2 projects | reddit.com/r/MacOS | 24 Oct 2021
I've also heard of the IINA player but can't find anything saying that it supports HDR. It doesn't mention HDR on its official Github page.
