Am I correct in thinking that codegen can create a file outside of the root but not update it?

Using GraphQL with Strawberry, FastAPI, and Next.js
9 projects | dev.to | 15 Jun 2022
There has been discussion to make graphql-codegen generate all mutations and queries by introspecting our online GraphQL API, but so far it is not possible to do that using only graphql-codegen. There do exist tools that allow you to do that, but I am not going to use them in this article. You can explore them on your own.

I'm currently working on two separate projects, the first is a Django project with DRF and I codegen with drf-spectacular and openapi-typescript-codegen . The other project also uses Django, with the API through Hasura and codegen with graphql-codegen . In both of these cases I've been able to largely avoid duplicating my models clientside, or at least it isn't manual.
Code-first vs schema-first approach
1 project | reddit.com/r/graphql | 4 Jan 2022
https://graphql-code-generator.com has support for generating code in different languages, e.g. Java. I'm pretty sure Python has some libraries to do schema first as well.
TypeScript Decoders and why they Matter if you care about robust code

If you don't want any runtime overhead, you should just use a TS types generator or some compile time magic to call your api route functions directly. For GraphQL, there is the amazing graphql-code-generator which generates fully typed functions you can call on the frontend from your schema.

Depending on the lang, each client used scripts for generating types. For TS, we used graphql-code-generator and Go we used gqlgen.3 projects | reddit.com/r/graphql | 22 Dec 2021
We have GraphQL schemas exposed from back-end and the front-end pointing to it. Everyone generates their own types looking at this schemas served from backend. We use graphql-code-generator .

Typesafe deserialization of GraphQL data (react-query and GraphQL Codegen)
1 project | reddit.com/r/reactjs | 22 Aug 2021
After significant time of googling I found github discussion: https://github.com/dotansimha/graphql-code-generator/issues/5949 which concludes, that data deserialization should be done in app. I don't seem to understand something. Where should I put deserializer if generated hooks, already returnes data in the correct type.
What's new in GraphQL-Codegen v2?
3 projects | dev.to | 5 Aug 2021
GraphQL Code Generator is around for almost 5 years, and it's improving the developer experience of many developers (>3M downloads a month on NPM!). Like all of The Guild's projects, throughout all these years, the library continuously evolved based on the experience and feedback from the community and our clients - every day codegen gets better and better, so keep your feedback coming and keep your dependencies up to date :) But now, it's time for a big release!
